Van de Ven Brace Halts The Toffees' Run at Brand New Home Ground

The Tottenham defender scored twice as Tottenham extended their unbeaten run in away games in the Premier League and handed Everton their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after 133 years at the conclusion of last season.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman pounced twice from corners in the opening 45 minutes to place their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - headed home a final goal to seal the victory.

The Everton defender thought he had equalized the tally a short while after the defender's first goal, directing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

Beto, meanwhile, missed a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a succession of excellent stops to guarantee Tottenham went five away games unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee intervened, advising Craig Pawson to review the score on the pitchside monitor and the referee decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in offside positions and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win elevates the manager's side into third place in the division, five points off north London rivals and leaders Arsenal.

Everton remain 14th and sit half a dozen points ahead of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender excels in role at each end of pitch

After a uninspiring weekday display in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a mere attempts on goal, Frank opted for Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The new arrival was unable to make much of an impact before being substituted for Richarlison after an hour on the field, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the end.

Defender the Dutchman converted into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with the midfielder directing the ball toward the face of goal for an unmarked Van de Ven to score.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as skipper in Cristian Romero's unavailability - added his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he rose above Jordan Pickford to nod in.

The Dutchman was just as outstanding in defence, combining well with Kevin Danso as the duo handled excellently with the 34 crosses thrown their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Everton lacking finishing touch

Everton's new home had been a fortress, but it seems the freshness may have faded slightly and supporters headed to the gates after Sarr's final goal for Spurs.

The break in Everton's unbeaten home run won't be a major concern for the manager, but their attacking woes will be.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' pair of recognised centre-forwards - had scored only one league goal combined before the weekend's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor tally on a damp and dreary night on Merseyside.

The striker's form was summed up when he chose to overhead kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, even with having space and opportunity to readjust for a more conventional shot that would have tested Vicario.

The substitute, too, failed to influence the game after coming on for the starter in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. The majority of the home side's offensive moves came through the winger and the forward, who tirelessly whipped dangerous balls into the Spurs penalty area.
