All Fans Are Encouraged to Join as the Additional Haim Sisters Sister.

"Do you know when you'll be chatting with Haim?" a text reads. "I wanted to ask if I can become their extra sister."

There's just a key snag: I also wants to be Haim's newest recruit. Furthermore, we are far from alone. Multiple high-profile admirers have also begged for the position.

The evidence suggests an irresistible appeal is going on. Sisters Este, Danielle and Alana launched their path performing shows at small eateries with their parents. Today, they are repeated Grammy hopefuls.

In the tradition of the greatest groups, they're a inseparable gang. Their videos often show them walking in unison down the avenues of Los Angeles. In concert, they play with such unfettered happiness you inevitably think, "I wish to be a piece of that, too."

"The numerous instances on tour that fans approached us and said, 'After your show, I bought a guitar'," says Alana, the youngest of the sisters. "It is the ultimate honor. That's an award in itself. We've done our job if we can encourage young girls to make music."

"So everyone are welcome to be the honorary Haim sister."

Grammy Milestone

The band have called into their homes, where they're resting up after an extensive tour in for their new album, I Quit.

They're currently processing the news it's been shortlisted for best rock album at the Grammy Awards – with Haim the pioneering female band ever in the running for the award.

"I watch the announcements every year, so it sort of feels like a surreal movie when your name is called," notes Alana. "I immediately called my sisters to say, 'Did I hear this correctly or am I dreaming'?"

The weight of the accolade isn't lost on the trio.

"We deliberately set out to make a rock album this time, so it's a significant step," continues Alana. "But we're just grateful for the pioneers that inspired us."

Emotional Upheaval and Humour

The record was born from a phase of transition. All three sisters ended up single, and the music inhabits that strange in-between place where you're glad to be free, but not quite ready to move on.

The words track endings and farewells. The sisters desire love, but not the specific love they've got. You can hear them figuring out in the moment who they want to be.

"That's a perfect summary, yes," says Danielle. "I Quit is like a personal statement. You have to make an effort in ignoring the outside opinions and saying, 'I couldn't care less what people think'."

Development of Style

That recent confidence called for a fresh approach – more unpolished and immediate than any of the music the band had done before.

For Danielle, who worked on producing the album, that began with the drum sound.

"Percussion is such a nuanced thing, and I care so much about it," she says.

"'Journey of the drum sound' will be the title of our book," quips Alana. "I've said it, our albums don't start until we find the right drum sound."

Stories and Collective Laughter

The band's honesty inspired the album's rollout, where the sisters shared some of their dating horror stories.

A former partner broke up with Este over a health consideration. Alana shared a story of flying to spend New Year's Eve with someone, only to receive a friendly slap at midnight.

"When you're going through these breakups, you just feel like there's only darkness," says Alana. "Thus to be able to share those stories and have them tell you even crazier stories, it's therapeutic."

A Secure Legacy

One can easily sense a shift in the band. Now, Haim are more certain of their place in the industry.

They're top-billed acts, with chart-topping albums and an worldwide fan base.

But Haim will always be their number one focus.

"We have been playing music since I was little," concludes Alana. "There is no alternative that we were destined for. And I'm really grateful we've made it and we're still going strong."
